Essential Disciplines for Adults
This curriculum, ready to use out-of-the-box, equips adults with the practical understanding and potential immediate mastery of five Essential Disciplines or necessary practices for personal and interpersonal success. The five Essential Disciplines focus on character, communication, conflict resolution, continual improvement, and ones calling (purpose, passion and vision). In the field of computer and software this is referred to as a consistent user interface. Regardless of the software used, the user always works with a window and always has a pull-down menu at the top of the screen, and so forth. Once a user learns how to navigate these consistent features, they can work their way through almost any software program. Similarly, Essential Disciplines does this for personal and relational growth. It teaches you how to navigate relationships by recognizing certain common and enduring features. Here is a simple overview: The Refine process concentrates on self (me) and focuses on character development. The Share process concentrates on the other (you) and focuses on communication. The reconcile process concentrates on self and other (we) in negative situations and focuses on conflict resolution. The Enhance process concentrates on the positive in situations and focuses on continual improvement. The Envision process concentrates on the possible in situations and focuses on ones calling, purpose and passion.

Couples learn skills for communication, conflict resolution, forgiveness and rebuilding trust, satisfying personal needs, developing commitment, and enhancing physical intimacy. A couple who still feels “in love” after years of marriage is unsinkable in the waves of life. In the LINKS Program you will learn how to regularly revitalize the dynamic links of your marriage with the Relationship Attachment Model (R.A.M.). In a simple picture, this model characterizes the complex interactions of the ways you know, trust in, rely on, belong to and become intimate with each other in marriage, and the boundaries needed to protect your relationship from harm. The Relationship Attachment Model (RAM) has been used empirically validated in the PICK Program for pacing the development of a new relationship. Now married couples can use the RAM for maintaining the harmony of an ongoing relationship. Receive tools for managing crucial relationship links such as mutually knowing each other (talking, togetherness), trusting in (keeping positive/respectful opinions), depending on (mutually meeting needs), committing to (cultivating deep feelings of belonging together), and sexually fulfilling each other. Comprised of five sessions, each lasting 45 to 60 minutes, the program can be taught in a variety of settings, including churches, community agencies, and the military.
